About the station

Listen to WWOZ 90.7 FM online

WWOZ 90.7 FM is New Orleans’ listener-supported, volunteer-programmed community radio station. Its hosts present traditional and modern jazz, blues, R&B, gospel, Cajun, zydeco, Latin, Brazilian, Caribbean, and world music, with a strong emphasis on artists and musical traditions connected to New Orleans and Louisiana.

WWOZ first went on the air on December 4, 1980. The call letters refer to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the idea that the music—not the person behind the curtain—should be the focus. Its first studio operated above Tipitina’s nightclub, where a microphone could be lowered through the floor to capture performances downstairs.

Friends of WWOZ has held the license since 1987 with support from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation. WWOZ launched its website in 1995 and began online streaming in 1996. The player uses the station’s official MP3 stream, and the full schedule below follows Central Time.
