About the station

Listen to NPR online

WUNC 91.5 FM is the flagship of North Carolina Public Radio. From Chapel Hill, the listener-supported service combines NPR news with statewide reporting and programs about politics, education, health, culture, and communities across North Carolina. The local weekday lineup includes Due South, alongside Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

WUNC’s roots reach back to a University of North Carolina student radio service established in 1952. After an equipment failure took the original station off the air in 1970, WUNC returned in April 1976 as an NPR member station. It has since developed a statewide newsroom and network of full-power FM signals.

The Chapel Hill and Triangle service is heard on 91.5 FM. Companion stations carry WUNC to the Outer Banks, Fayetteville, the Triad, Rocky Mount, Laurinburg, Chadbourn, Buxton, and Lumberton. The direct stream already used by this page remains active, and schedule times follow Eastern Time.

Records name WUNC Public Radio as the owner or licensee.

How we verify NPR

Last verified
Our verification method

We match the call sign, licensed frequency, city of license, and facility identity against FCC data. We then compare the station name, format, schedule, and related signals with the station’s official website and test the listed stream in a browser-compatible player. Regional restrictions, breaking news, and live sports can still change availability or programming.
