WQXR 105.9 FM is New York City’s full-time classical music radio service. Its programming combines major orchestral and chamber works, opera, contemporary classical music, artist interviews, and performances connected with New York’s cultural institutions. The station’s official services also provide a detailed play history for listeners looking for a composer, work, or performer heard on air.
The service traces its roots to experimental station W2XR. On December 3, 1936, WQXR became a licensed high-fidelity radio station. It later operated for decades under The New York Times before becoming a listener-supported New York Public Radio service. WQXR moved to its current 105.9 FM frequency on October 8, 2009.
WQXR broadcasts from New York and shares its nonprofit parent organization with WNYC. Use this page for the live stream and verified station details; the official WQXR schedule and play-history services remain useful for minute-by-minute program and repertoire information.
