WJR first broadcast in 1922 as WCX. The Detroit-licensed 760 AM facility operates with 50,000 watts as a Class A clear-channel station and is known as “The Great Voice of the Great Lakes.” Live sports and special coverage may preempt regular programs.
The station is owned by Cumulus Media, serves as the flagship for Michigan State University athletics and carries selected Westwood One NFL games. Its current Detroit sister station is 96.3 WDVD. No separate analog WJR simulcast or translator was confirmed.
