GBH 89.7 FM is Boston’s local NPR news station. The service combines national public-radio programs with a substantial local newsroom: GBH reports more than 30 hours of locally produced radio each week and 17 local newscasts on a typical weekday.
Its weekday programming includes locally hosted Morning Edition and the conversation program Boston Public Radio. In 2026, GBH added The Curiosity Desk as a weekday early-afternoon program. Music remains part of the schedule through GBH Music’s weekend jazz blocks, which begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The station is operated by the nonprofit GBH Educational Foundation from its Brighton studios. GBH provides an official direct stream for 89.7, while its wider public-media organization also operates separate classical, Cape and Islands, and online music services.
