About the station

Listen to NPR online

WFAE 90.7 is Charlotte’s listener-supported NPR news station. The independent nonprofit newsroom covers Charlotte and communities across the Carolinas, while the weekly lineup combines Morning Edition, All Things Considered, BBC World Service, and the locally produced weekday interview program Charlotte Talks.

WFAE first signed on June 29, 1981, as Charlotte’s first public-radio station. It began as a 100,000-watt NPR affiliate and developed from a campus-based service into a regional newsroom licensed to University Radio Foundation, Inc.

The main signal broadcasts on 90.7 FM in Charlotte. WFAE programming is also available on 90.3 FM in Hickory, 93.7 FM in Southern Pines, and 106.1 FM in Laurinburg. The player uses the station’s official MP3 stream, and schedule times follow Eastern Time.

How we verify NPR

Last verified
Our verification method

We match the call sign, licensed frequency, city of license, and facility identity against FCC data. We then compare the station name, format, schedule, and related signals with the station’s official website and test the listed stream in a browser-compatible player. Regional restrictions, breaking news, and live sports can still change availability or programming.
