WCNY Classic FM 91.3 is Central New York’s locally programmed classical music service. Its hosts select orchestral, chamber, choral, opera, and contemporary works, while specialty programs include Exploring Music, Performance Today, Fresh Ink, Sounds of Jazz, and the long-running Bluegrass Ramble.
WCNY-FM first signed on December 4, 1971, with a mix of classical and easy-listening music, public affairs, talk, and jazz. The radio service grew from one Syracuse frequency into a regional network and remains one of the comparatively few U.S. classical stations whose daily music is selected by local hosts.
Classic FM broadcasts on 91.3 FM in Syracuse, 89.5 WUNY-FM in Utica, and 90.9 WJNY-FM in Watertown. The player uses WCNY’s official high-quality stream; the weekly schedule follows Eastern Time.
Records name The Public Broadcasting Council of Central New York, Inc as the owner or licensee.
