About the station

Listen to NPR online

WBUR 90.9 FM is Boston’s NPR news and information station. Its weekday lineup combines locally hosted editions of Morning Edition and All Things Considered with national public-radio programs. WBUR also produces On Point and Here & Now for audiences beyond New England.

WBUR-FM first went on the air on March 1, 1950, as a 400-watt educational station licensed to Boston University. The service developed into a public-radio newsroom during the following decades and was carrying NPR programming by satellite in 1980. Today its reporting covers Boston, Massachusetts, and major regional and national stories.

Listeners can receive the service on 90.9 FM in Boston, 92.7 FM in the Cape, Islands, and South Coast, and 89.1 FM in Brewster. The player and seven-day schedule on this page provide another way to follow WBUR when an FM signal is unavailable.

How we verify NPR

Last verified
Our verification method

We match the call sign, licensed frequency, city of license, and facility identity against FCC data. We then compare the station name, format, schedule, and related signals with the station’s official website and test the listed stream in a browser-compatible player. Regional restrictions, breaking news, and live sports can still change availability or programming.
