WBFO 88.7 FM is Buffalo Toronto Public Media’s NPR news service for Western New York and Southern Ontario. Its lineup combines reporting from the WBFO newsroom with Morning Edition, BBC Newshour, Fresh Air, All Things Considered, Marketplace, and locally produced conversations about the Buffalo region.
WBFO first signed on January 6, 1959, from the University at Buffalo’s South Campus. Created as an educational experiment by engineering faculty, it became the region’s first educational radio station and later helped build the public-radio tradition that developed around NPR. Western New York Public Broadcasting acquired WBFO in 2012.
The main service broadcasts on 88.7 FM in Buffalo and is relayed on 91.3 FM in Olean and 88.1 FM in Jamestown. The player uses the official WBFO MP3 stream, and the day-by-day schedule follows Eastern Time.
