WBEZ 91.5 FM is Chicago’s public radio news, talk, and culture service. Its schedule combines local reporting and conversation with national programs from NPR and other public-media producers. The station is part of Chicago Public Media, which also includes the Chicago Sun-Times and music service Vocalo.
WBEZ was established in 1943 as an extension service of the Chicago Board of Education. It became a charter member of NPR in 1970 and later developed national programs with roots in Chicago. The station is associated with the creation of This American Life, Serial, and Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!
