WBAI 99.5 FM is New York City’s listener-supported Pacifica station. Its independently produced schedule spans news, public affairs, politics, labor, health, science, arts, literature, and music, with community hosts and perspectives that are often absent from commercial broadcasting.
The station began as WABF in 1941, moved to 99.5 FM in 1948, and adopted the WBAI identity in 1955. On January 10, 1960, philanthropist Louis Schweitzer donated WBAI to the Pacifica Foundation, making it part of the listener-funded network established by pacifist broadcaster Lew Hill.
WBAI serves the New York metropolitan area on 99.5 FM and streams its live schedule worldwide. Its Pacifica sister stations are KPFA in Berkeley, KPFK in Los Angeles, KPFT in Houston, and WPFW in Washington. The schedule below follows Eastern Time and may change during special coverage and fund drives.
