KXJZ 90.9 FM is the Sacramento flagship of CapRadio News, a listener-supported public radio service licensed to California State University, Sacramento. The station combines reporting from its Sacramento newsroom with national and international news, interviews, analysis, and storytelling from NPR, the BBC, American Public Media, and other public-media producers.
Local coverage focuses on California government and politics, the Sacramento region, health care, housing, education, the environment, arts, and communities across Northern California. Insight With Vicki Gonzalez provides a weekday forum for conversations with reporters, policymakers, researchers, artists, and community voices, airing at noon and again at 7 p.m. Pacific Time Monday through Thursday.
The weekday CapRadio News schedule includes Morning Edition, Here & Now, 1A, BBC Newshour, Marketplace, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, BBC Newsday, and overnight BBC World Service coverage. Friday replaces Insight with Science Friday and The Moth Radio Hour. The schedule below is displayed in Pacific Time and highlights the program currently on the air.
Weekend programming includes Weekend Edition, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, Planet Money and How I Built This, This American Life, Code Switch and Life Kit, Hidden Brain, Science Friday, Snap Judgment, Radiolab, Throughline, Reveal, Latino USA, and Travel With Rick Steves.
CapRadio began in 1970 as student-operated KERS at Sacramento State. KXJZ signed on in 1991 with a 50,000-watt signal carrying jazz, news, public affairs, and locally produced programs. The station later became the network's dedicated news service and remains part of the nonprofit Capital Public Radio organization.
